Mark Christie, 54, who was found dead Tuesday evening by Slippery Rock Borough Police, died of natural causes, police said Wednesday morning.

The department’s chief, Terry Fedokovitz, confirmed that investigators found nothing suspicious about the death.

“He appears to have died of natural, medical causes,” Fedokovitz said. “No foul play is suspected.”

Fedokovitz confirmed that there were no signs that the event was a suicide, and no signs of illegal drugs were found.

The man was a tenant of the Campus Edge Apartments near Slippery Rock University, but he was not a student and had no other relation to the university, Fedokovitz said.

The body was discovered after a tenant reported a smell. Maintenance staff entered the apartment to perform a welfare check, discovered the body and reported it to police.

The man was pronounced dead at 07:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to Butler County Deputy Coroner Larry Barr. He was found in his living room.

Someone last saw the man on Aug. 30, according to Barr.

His body has not received an autopsy due to the extent of its decomposition, Barr said.
