Alexus Nubani Receives A Scholarship To Attend SRU

The Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation awarded $2,000 scholarships to 13 students planning careers in health care. Diane Sauer, chairwoman of the health foundation and president of Diane Sauer Chevrolet, Inc. said, “We wish them the best in their college studies and encourage them to begin their professional careers here in the Mahoning Valley.”

The winners were chosen through an application process that considered students’ academic achievements, career plans and extracurricular activities.

The recipients, their high schools, university they plan to attend and chosen field of study are:

  • Melissa Baker (Hubbard High School 2015), Ohio State University, medical laboratory science.
  • Anna Bodo (Mineral Ridge High School 2017), University of Mount Union, nursing.
  • Sidney Drake (Newton Falls High School 2017), OSU, pre-pharmacy.
  • Jasmine Hickey (Bristo High School 2017), Kent State University, nursing.
  • Emily Marsico (Girard High School 2017), Youngstown State University, pre-medicine.
  • Michael Massucci (Howland High School 2017), Walsh University, pre-occupational therapy.
  • Kimberly McCann (Liberty High School 2018), YSU, nursing.
  • Alexus Nubani (LaBrae High School 2016), Slippery Rock University, pre-physician assistant.
  • Halli Petillo (Niles McKinley High School 2018), OSU, biochemistry.
  • Natalie Preusser (Warren G. Harding High School 2018), University of Cincinnati, forensic psychology.
  • Jessica Spore (Howland 2018), Cleveland State University, music therapy.
  • Nicholas Varga (Brookfield High School 2018), KSU, pre-medicine.
  • Olivia Woods (Harding 2015), Miami University, biology and kinesiology.

The foundation provides grants to initiatives that advance the health of Trumbull County residents, as well as scholarships to future healthcare professionals.

The foundation is the successor to the Trumbull Memorial Hospital foundation, created by the hospital in 1976. The TMH Foundation was founded in 2012 and has operated separately from the hospital as an affiliate of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.
