The University of Northern Colorado’s sport and exercise science program was selected as one of two in the nation, along with Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, to participate in the Active Schools youth fitness initiative.

UNC received a $700,000 grant from the Colorado Health Foundation as part of this to promote health and wellness at high-need schools in northern Colorado.

Two UNC sport and exercise science faculty also were chosen to sit on Active Schools’ leadership committee. Active Schools serves as a consultant to help schools assess the best programs to get students active and find resources to do so.
