The owner of Horseshoe Hills Outfitters in Slippery Rock Township has pleaded guilty to four counts of illegally importing deer into Kansas.

Robert P. McConnell, 48, pleaded earlier this month to violations of the Lace Act, which regulates trade of wildlife, fish and plants that have been illegally taken, possessed, transported or sold, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister of Kansas.

Horseshoe Hill Outfitters advertises trophy hunting trips in Kansas, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Ontario, Canada.

In two counts, McConnell admitted to importing deer to Kansas that were not from an accredited herd and did not have a certificate of veterinary inspection. In two other counts, he admitted importing domesticated deer, according to the news release.

Both sides have agreed to a recommend sentence of five years of probation and a fine of at least $10,000, the release said.

McConnell could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
