Students, guests and Slippery Rock residents will have a new spot to stop for pastries early next year.

Dunkin’, formerly known as Dunkin’ Donuts, has announced plans to open a new store along Main Street in Slippery Rock as soon as Spring, 2020. This is according to Mike Zappone, a property manager with Heartland Restaurant Group, which is a local franchisee for Dunkin’ restaurants in Western Pennsylvania.

“We feel pretty confident we have a good property to go with,” Zappone said to the media. “It will be at the old Sheetz property on South Main Street, just a few blocks away from campus.”

Construction is expected to take about three months. While there will no drive-through, there will be a garage door in the front that opens onto a patio.

Positive local feedback, along with success in other similar locations, convinced store owners to move forward with the plan to establish their presence in Slippery Rock.

“We’ve had a ton of success in Indiana, where there’s another state system (IUP) with their student and local population,” Zappone said. “And we think we’ve got another home run site in Slippery Rock.”

Developers for the company are currently advancing through the process of municipal zoning approval and securing all necessary permits to begin work on the construction site.
