Below you could read the open letter to Dr. Phil from SRU President Bill Behre following the good doctor’s unfortunate remarks involving the name of our alma mater.

Following that, Dr. Phil has issued an open letter of apology to SRU students, faculty and alumni (but not parents of students and/or alumni), which he tweeted below.

With all due respect to the nearly perfect apology, how does one make up or come up with the name “Slippery Rock University”? It is virtually impossible. It is also impossible to have not heard of the school, especially if you follow football in any capacity…

On the other hand, if you subscribe to the belief that “there is no such thing as bad publicity”, often attributed to Phineas Taylor (P. T.) Barnum and parafrazed as “no publicity is bad publicity”, and Oscar Wilde’s “the only thing worse than being talked about, is not being talked about” this certainly is good for SRU.

Dr. Phil has a following of over 1.46 million people in Tweeter and as of this hour (some 5 hours after posting), his apology, which you could read below, has been liked by over 1.6K followers and has been retweeted 490 times.
