Slippery Rock University’s council of trustees Friday narrowed the field of candidates to become the school’s 17th president to two finalists and agreed to forward their names to the State System of Higher Education board of governors for a decision.

William Behre is chief academic officer for Georgian Court University in New Jersey, bringing nearly 25 years of experience as a public school educator.

Rodney Hanley is provost and vice president for academic affairs at Fisk University in Tennessee and has a 29-year career in academia.

They are vying to succeed Cheryl Norton, who retired at the end of June.

The board of governors for the State System will interview each candidate March 5. The board will then make a selection.
