Slippery Rock Police

March 27 — Shawn M. Forsythe, 31, of Slippery Rock was charged with shoplifting seven items from the Back to the Vape Shop on South Main Street. Store surveillance video showed him taking the merchandise, valued at $335, on March 17, court documents said.

Forsythe is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.

Slippery Rock University Police

6:39 p.m. March 24 — Matthew M. Craw, 21, of Slippery Rock was arrested for drunken driving on Harmony Road near Kiester Road. He was pulled over after police spotted his vehicle’s inspection was expired.

Police said he admitted drinking alcohol and he subsequently failed field sobriety tests. He was taken for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.138 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

Craw is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.

State Police, Butler

March 27 — Shawn M. Thomas, 45, of Slippery Rock was charged with being more than twice the state’s legal limit for alcohol and on marijuana in connection with a two-vehicle crash last month in Franklin Township.

Police said moments before the wreck about 1:40 a.m. March 12, Thomas was traveling east in the westbound lanes on Route 422. He narrowly avoided a head-on collision with a westbound tractor-trailer when he swerved his car into the middle turning lane, according to court documents.

He sideswiped the rig just east of Dick Road. A search of the car turned up two containers containing unidentified pills, a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, and a marijuana pipe.

Police took Thomas to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.189 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

Additionally, documents said, the defendant tested positive for marijuana.

Thomas is charged with DUI, driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, possession of a small amount of marijuana, disregarding traffic lanes, failing to keep right and careless driving.
